How Telehealth is Helping WIC California

Learn how Healthie's telehealth technology helps the WIC program in California. Find out how telenutrition improves community engagement.

April 26, New York – Healthie is excited to announce its partnership with the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program at Community Medical Centers (CMC) in California. This partnership allows the WIC program to utilize Healthie’s innovative telehealth technology for its social mission of safeguarding “the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care”

Erica Jain, founder and CEO at Healthie, stated

“WIC contributes to the health and wellness of over 8 million women and children every year, and Healthie is honored to have the ability to be a part of the excellent care delivered by CMC-WIC providers. We look forward to having the opportunity to give back to at-risk communities by enabling their network with our technology.”

The CMC-WIC providers will use Healthie’s telehealth platform in a pilot program to understand the impact of remote care on community engagement, healthcare outcomes, and to examine ways to bolster program efficacy. Providers will utilize HIPAA-compliant video calls with patients in the network to decrease the barriers for access to care and increase convenience of appointments. CMC-WIC patients will also benefit from cutting edge features in the Healthie mobile app that include visual diet logging, educational document sharing, text messaging, and tracking of custom metrics set by providers.

For mothers with young children, many of whom work full time or have highly demanding schedules, telehealth appointments will allow valuable time and cost savings by eliminating commutes. The platform’s goal setting tools and educational features will allow for increased accountability and self-monitoring throughout the patient network, and provide opportunities for better health outcomes in the long term long term. WIC joins other nonprofit organizations like Baraka Community Wellness that leverage Healthie to reduce nutrition disparities and improve outcomes in at-risk communities.
