Pelago search for an API-first solution after outgrowing an EHR

Pelago needed a platform that could keep pace with rapid growth and integrate seamlessly with their existing infrastructure.

Pelago faced a critical scaling issue: their internal EHR system could no longer support the needs of a rapidly growing care team. “We built something that worked for us in the early days,” said Josh Hill, Director of Engineering at Pelago, “but it quickly became clear we were spending too much time maintaining tools instead of delivering new features.”

The engineering team considered building out their existing system or switching to a traditional EHR platform, but none met their need for speed, flexibility, and extensibility. “We were looking for something API-first,” Hill noted, “something that would allow us to move fast without waiting on vendor roadmaps.” 

A key priority was enabling care operations teams to be more self-sufficient — especially when it came to building out workflows, custom forms, and lightweight integrations. Through industry connections, Hill’s team was introduced to Healthie, which quickly emerged best fit for their needs.

Today, Pelago leverages Healthie’s charting, scheduling, and form-building tools,  and is working toward a centralized dashboard that will bring more of their homegrown functionality into the Healthie ecosystem.
