Linked Client Accounts (Family & Caregiver Relationships)

Link two client accounts, such as a parent and child or spouses, to indicate a family relationship and see a linked indicator on both profiles. Optionally grant a linked account (caregiver) full access to another client's (care receiver's) account, letting them switch over to handle billing, forms, or other tasks on that person's behalf. Linking does not change either client's own portal access unless caregiver access is explicitly granted.

Built by Core Engineering

The problem it solves

When working with multiple family members as separate clients, providers have no built-in way to recall that two accounts are related, or to let one family member (like a parent) handle account tasks for another (like a child) without sharing login credentials. Linked Client Accounts solves this by surfacing the relationship directly on both profiles and, when needed, granting one account secure, revocable access to the other.

What's included

  • Account-to-account linking from Client Profile > Actions > Client Info > Family and Contacts
  • Linked indicator and relationship details visible on the Client List and both profiles
  • Optional Client Portal Access grant, giving a linked account (caregiver) full access to another account (care receiver)
  • Invite-and-accept flow for the linked client before caregiver access takes effect
  • Switch Account option for a linked client who has been granted access to another account

How it works

A provider opens a client's profile, navigates to Actions > Client Info > Family and Contacts, and selects + Link Client Account to connect a new or existing client account, specifying the relationship. This adds a linked indicator, visible on the Client List and both profiles, showing the connected account and relationship on hover. If the provider also wants the linked client to access the original client's account directly, they check the Client Portal Access box; the linked client then receives an invite email to accept the connection, and once accepted, sees a Switch Account option to move between their own account and the account they were granted access to. Accounts can be disassociated from the same Family and Contacts section on the original client's profile where the link was created.

Linked Client Accounts let providers connect two client accounts, such as a parent and child or two spouses, to indicate a family relationship, surfacing a linked indicator and relationship details on both the Client List and each profile. It's built for practices working with multiple family members who are each active clients, so the relationship is easy to recall without changing either client's default access. Optionally, a provider can grant a linked account full access to the other's account, most commonly a caregiver managing a care receiver's account, which lets that person switch between accounts to pay a bill, complete a form, or handle another workflow. Granting this access sends the linked client an invite email they must accept before access takes effect.
