E-Rx: Extended Order Types (Compounds & Supplies)

Order compounded medications and non-medication supplies through the same E-Rx flow used for standard prescriptions, submitted electronically to the pharmacy or printed for the patient. Build a compound by adding each ingredient individually, and search for supplies the same way as medications, with results filterable by diagnosis. If an ingredient or supply isn't in DoseSpot's database, a request can be submitted to have it added via Lexicomp, though approval timing is outside Healthie's control.

The problem it solves

Prescribers who need to order a compounded medication or a physical supply, not just a standard commercial drug, would otherwise need a separate ordering system outside their E-Rx workflow. This solves that by supporting both order types directly within the same DoseSpot-powered prescribing flow used for medications.

What's included

  • Compound medication builder, adding each ingredient and its NDC code individually
  • Supply ordering with autocomplete search or free-text/custom supply entry
  • Diagnosis-based filtering to narrow supply search results
  • Electronic submission to the pharmacy or a printable version for patient self-fulfillment
  • Request process for adding a missing ingredient or supply to DoseSpot's database via Lexicomp

How it works

From a client's Medications widget, a provider selects Order and manage prescriptions and chooses to create a compound or order a supply instead of a standard medication. For a compound, the provider adds each ingredient with its NDC code (using the primary ingredient's code if the compound itself isn't listed) until all required fields are complete, then selects Create Compound. For a supply, the provider searches by name, optionally filters by diagnosis, or adds a custom supply if it's not found, then completes the order the same way as a standard prescription. Either order type can be saved as a Favorite for future reuse. If an ingredient or supply is missing entirely, the provider can email Healthie support with its NDC code to request Lexicomp add it to DoseSpot's database.

This extends E-Rx ordering beyond standard medications to also support compounded medications and non-medication supplies, both submitted through the same DoseSpot-powered flow. It's built for providers who need to prescribe a compound built from individual ingredients, or order supplies like devices or testing materials alongside standard medications. A compound is built by adding each ingredient and its NDC code individually, while a supply is searched for the same way as a medication, with an option to select a diagnosis to narrow results to related supplies. If an ingredient or supply isn't available in DoseSpot's database, a request can be submitted for Lexicomp to add it, though the approval and turnaround time comes from Lexicomp directly and can't be expedited by Healthie or DoseSpot.
