Associate E-Labs Order with Chart Note

Lets providers link an E-Labs order to a chart note at the moment of ordering, right from the Quick Profile. Once submitted, the order populates automatically in a Lab Orders section on that chart note across every surface: view, edit, PDF, and share.

Built by Core Engineering

The problem it solves

Providers ordering labs through E-Labs Direct had no way to connect a specific lab order to the clinical encounter where it was ordered, leaving chart notes without a documented record of labs from that visit. This made it hard to maintain a complete, auditable trail of care for compliance and review.

What's included

  • Side modal for placing and associating a lab order without leaving the chart note
  • Chart note field to link any unlocked, unsigned note to the order
  • Automatic "Lab Orders" section that populates on the linked chart note
  • Display across chart note view, edit, PDF, and share surfaces

How it works

From a client's Quick Profile, the provider clicks Order E-Labs, which opens a side modal within the charting interface. After entering the lab order details, the provider selects an unlocked, unsigned chart note from the Chart note field, or leaves it unset to place the order without linking one. If the E-Labs order was started while editing a chart note, that note is selected by default. Once billing, lab, and order details are complete and the order is submitted, the lab order populates automatically into a Lab Orders section on the linked chart note, visible on the note's view, edit, PDF, and share surfaces. Once the E-Labs action is complete, the Lab Orders section itself can't be edited directly, though later actions tied to the same order (like a cancellation) display in sequence.

Associates an E-Labs order with a specific chart note at the moment a provider places the order, so the lab details appear automatically wherever that note is viewed. It's built for practices ordering through E-Labs Direct that need a documented link between lab orders and the clinical encounter, such as Talkiatry. Providers choose the chart note from a side modal when they click Order E-Labs from the Quick Profile, and the order populates automatically into the note once submitted.
