E-Rx

Sends electronic prescriptions to any pharmacy directly from a client's profile, with Healthie managing the DoseSpot connection so no separate vendor account is required.

Built by Core Engineering

The problem it solves

Prescribing medications requires navigating separate ePrescribing platforms and maintaining additional vendor accounts. Switching between systems mid-encounter slows providers and creates opportunities for prescribing errors.

What's included

  • In-chart e-prescribing to 95%+ of US pharmacies via DoseSpot/Surescripts
  • Automatic Medications widget labeling (E-prescribed vs. self-reported)
  • Real-time prescription benefit and pricing comparison across pharmacies (enhanced DoseSpot UI)
  • Optional EPCS add-on for controlled substance prescribing (Enterprise only)
  • Surescripts-sourced medication history, formulary, and insurance/copay data
  • PDMP access via Bamboo Health for EPCS-enabled providers

How it works

Customer submits Healthie's E-Rx Application Form (business info, prescriber NPI, active fax number, and any Proxy-access designations). Healthie forwards it to DoseSpot for review. EPCS permissions require additional identity proofing (Experian, or ID.me as fallback), which can extend the timeline further. Once approved, a prescriber opens "Order and manage prescriptions" from the Medications widget in the Client Profile or Quick Profile, which launches DoseSpot's UI in context. All prescribing runs inside Healthie's own DoseSpot clinic account, not a customer-linked instance. Completed prescriptions sync back automatically and appear in the Medications widget labeled "E-prescribed." DoseSpot's enhanced UI adds real-time prescription benefit checks, letting a prescriber compare pricing for a medication across pharmacies and formulations at the point of prescribing, rather than only seeing a formulary/non-formulary indicator.

Example configuration

E-Rx gives prescribing clinicians electronic prescribing inside Healthie, powered by Healthie's integration partner DoseSpot. It's available as an add-on on Plus, Group, and Enterprise plans, with an optional EPCS add-on for prescribing controlled substances. Prescribers access DoseSpot directly from the Medications widget on a client's profile, without leaving Healthie's UI. Because Healthie holds the DoseSpot account centrally, customers don't need to manage their own separate vendor login.
