The Challenge
Why does pediatric behavioral health need different tooling?
Half of all mental health issues emerge by age 14, yet fewer than half of children in the U.S. can access care, the gap Emora Health exists to close. When Robin Anil, who previously led research technology at Bridgewater Associates, joined Emora Health as CTO, the company was already using Healthie for care delivery and client engagement.
Anil immediately recognized what Healthie solved well for the organization: compliance, infrastructure, integrations, a performant, open API, and the ability to infinitely customize last mile experiences.
What was left for Emora to build the ever-important last mile: for children and their families, for clinicians, and for administrative tooling and workflows.
That distinction doesn't stop at bedside manner. It runs all the way back into how Emora staffs its practice.
"We have to make sure we have the right kind of clinicians, ones who can get kids interested in talking, in getting better. So even at that level, we had to screen for and build an entirely different clinician organization."
That's also why the move to a fully custom, headless build wasn't one decision, it was a structural one.
Building on Healthie's API meant Emora didn't have to start from scratch to get that experience right. Patient records stay in Healthie. The clinician and patient experience on top of it is built entirely around pediatric behavioral health.

Building the differentiated last mile
As Anil put it, the platform already covered most of what a practice needs out of the box, the remaining 10%, the deeply specialized pediatric workflows, is what Emora built into its own 90%.
Four capabilities do Emora’s heavy lifting:

- Fully Headless: Every clinician and patient screen is Emora's own, built directly on the API, with no Healthie interface ever shown to patients or staff
