Superbills
Generate an itemized receipt of services rendered for self-pay or out-of-network clients to submit to their insurance company for possible reimbursement, pre-filled from the client's profile and prior claims. Create one from Billing > Superbills, or export directly from a completed chart note. Share electronically with the client, a family member, or another contact, and support a second NPI number when a referring or supervising provider needs to be listed.

The problem it solves
Self-pay or out-of-network clients still want a chance at insurance reimbursement, but manually creating a compliant, itemized receipt for every session is time-consuming and inconsistent. Superbills solves this by generating a standardized receipt pre-filled from existing client and provider records, ready to hand off to the client for their own submission.
What's included
- Itemized Superbill generation with units, fee per unit, and automatic Amount Billed calculation
- Export to Superbill shortcut directly from a completed chart note
- Pre-fill from the client's profile, prior Superbills, and charting ICD-10/CPT fields
- Second NPI number support for a referring or supervising provider
- Electronic sharing with the client, or with a family member or other designated contact
How it works
A provider creates a Superbill from Billing > Superbills > New Superbill, selecting the client and one or more service dates, or generates one directly from a chart note via Export to Superbill, which pre-selects that note's session date. Client and provider information, along with any ICD-10 and CPT codes entered during charting, pre-fill automatically; the provider enters units and a fee per unit for each service, and Healthie calculates the total Amount Billed. If a referring or supervising provider needs to be listed, a second NPI number can be added to the Superbill. Once complete, the provider shares the Superbill electronically via Actions > Email to Client, or specifies a family member or other contact to receive it instead; the client (or designated recipient) can then download and submit it to their insurance company directly, since reimbursement is paid to the client, not the provider.
Superbills let providers generate a standardized, itemized receipt of services rendered, which self-pay or out-of-network clients can submit to their own insurance company for potential reimbursement. It's built for practices that either don't take insurance directly or are out-of-network for a given client's plan, since the provider still collects payment at time of service while the client pursues reimbursement independently. A Superbill can be created directly from Billing > Superbills, or generated as a shortcut from within a completed chart note via Export to Superbill, which carries over the session date and pre-fills client and provider information. Superbills require an active NPI number to generate, support a second NPI for a referring or supervising provider, and can be shared electronically with the client or, for cases like a minor or dependent, with a family member or other contact instead.
