Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP)
Automatically retrieve a patient's state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program history and NarxCare risk score at the point of care, for providers with EPCS enabled. Data displays directly beneath the patient's demographic information in Healthie, or as a link during final review of a controlled substance order, without needing to log into a separate state PDMP website. Requires E-Rx, completed EPCS enrollment, and is currently Enterprise-plan only.

The problem it solves
Providers prescribing controlled substances need visibility into a patient's prescription history across pharmacies and providers to avoid overprescribing or missing signs of misuse, but manually checking a separate state PDMP portal for every patient is slow and easy to skip. This automation solves that by pulling the relevant PDMP data automatically into the same workflow where the prescription is being written.

How it works
Once a provider has completed EPCS enrollment and PDMP access is enabled on their account (Enterprise plan only), visiting a client's profile in Healthie automatically triggers a PDMP data request in the background; if successful, the client's PDMP history and NarxCare risk scores display beneath their demographic information. If the enhanced Bamboo Health/NarxCare integration isn't in use, providers instead see a link during the Final Review & Sign Off step of a controlled substance order, which redirects to the relevant state's own PDMP portal for manual login. PDMP visibility is automatically available once Associate E-Rx Orders with Chart Notes is enabled at the org level; PDMP checks completed by logging directly into a state portal do not sync back into a chart note.

Once enabled, visiting a patient's profile automatically triggers a PDMP data request, and the resulting NarxCare scores appear beneath the patient's demographic information; alternatively, during the Final Review & Sign Off step of ordering a controlled substance, a link is provided to check the applicable state's PDMP directly if the enhanced NarxCare integration isn't used. There is no additional cost for accessing PDMP data itself, though it requires the underlying EPCS add-on. Not all states and territories currently have an active PDMP integration.
