CCDA Import and Export

Import a new client into Healthie directly from a CCDA XML file, or export a client's chart data as a standards-based CCDA document for another EHR to consume. Uploaded files go through a reconciliation step before the client record is created. Built on the same HL7 CCDA standard required of all certified EHRs.

The problem it solves

Bringing a new client's history into Healthie, or sending a client's chart data to another EHR, often means manually re-keying information from a PDF or spreadsheet export. CCDA Import and Export solves this by using the same structured, standards-based document format that all certified EHRs are required to support, so clinical data transfers as coded fields instead of free text.

What's included

  • CCDA file import that creates a new client record from an uploaded XML file
  • CCDA Reconciliation step to review imported data before it's saved
  • Error messaging for malformed or non-conforming CCDA files
  • CCDA file export of a client's chart data from the Charting tab
  • Troubleshooting guidance for resolving CCDA file issues

How it works

To import a client via CCDA, an admin navigates to the Clients tab, selects the option to add a client via CCDA file, and uploads the XML file from their device. If the file is valid, the admin is taken to a CCDA Reconciliation page to review the imported data before the client record is created; if the file has formatting issues, a red error banner appears with guidance for troubleshooting. To export a CCDA, an admin navigates to a client's profile, opens the Charting tab, and uses the Records box to generate and download the client's CCDA file.

CCDA Import and Export lets administrators bring a new client into Healthie by uploading a CCDA XML file, or export an existing client's chart data as a standards-based CCDA document for use in another EHR. It's built for organizations exchanging structured clinical summaries with other ONC-certified systems rather than working from scanned PDFs or manual re-entry. Importing a CCDA file walks the admin through a CCDA Reconciliation step before the client record is created, and files with formatting issues surface a clear error for troubleshooting. Exporting a CCDA is available from a client's Charting tab under Records.
