E-Rx: Drug and Allergy Interaction Checking

Automatically checks a new prescription against a client's active medications and documented allergies, and displays a warning if a potential drug-drug or drug-allergy interaction is found. Allergy data syncs between Healthie and DoseSpot, so allergies entered in either system are reflected in the interaction check. The warning is informational, giving the prescriber a chance to review before finalizing the order.

The problem it solves

Manually checking a new prescription against everything a client is already taking, and everything they're allergic to, is time-consuming and easy to get wrong, especially for clients with a long medication history. This solves that by running the interaction check automatically as part of the standard prescribing flow.

What's included

  • Automatic drug-drug interaction check against a client's active medications
  • Automatic drug-allergy interaction check against documented allergies
  • Bidirectional allergy sync between Healthie and DoseSpot
  • Informational warning display, allowing the prescriber to proceed after review

How it works

As a provider builds a new prescription in DoseSpot, the system checks the selected medication against the client's active medications and documented allergies, both of which are kept in sync between Healthie and DoseSpot. If a potential drug-drug or drug-allergy interaction is found, a warning displays before the prescription is finalized, giving the provider the chance to review and decide whether to proceed, adjust the order, or select an alternative medication.

This automatically checks a new prescription against a client's active medications and documented allergies as part of the DoseSpot ordering flow, surfacing a warning if a potential interaction is found. It's built to help prescribers catch a risky drug-drug or drug-allergy combination before finalizing an order, without needing to manually cross-reference a client's full medication and allergy list. Allergy data syncs bidirectionally between Healthie and DoseSpot: allergies entered in a client's Healthie profile transmit to DoseSpot when a prescription is issued, and allergies entered directly in DoseSpot pull back into Healthie, so the interaction check reflects whichever system a provider used most recently.
