E-Rx: Cancel a Prescription Order

Send a cancel request to the pharmacy for an active e-prescription directly from DoseSpot, with an optional note explaining the reason. Once sent, the prescription moves to the patient's inactive medication list with a "Cancel Requested" status until the pharmacy responds. If the pharmacy has already filled the prescription, they'll send back a "Cancel Denied" response instead of approving it.

The problem it solves

A prescription that's already been electronically sent to a pharmacy can't simply be deleted or edited from Healthie's side, since the pharmacy now has its own copy of the order. This solves that by giving providers a formal, trackable way to request the pharmacy stop fulfillment, with a clear status reflecting whether the cancellation succeeded.

What's included

  • Cancel request initiation from a patient's Active Medication list
  • Optional comment field for explaining the cancellation to the pharmacy
  • Automatic move to the inactive medication list with a "Cancel Requested" status upon submission
  • Pharmacy-driven approval or "Cancel Denied" response based on fulfillment status

How it works

A provider navigates to the patient's Active Medication list in DoseSpot, opens the Actions dropdown next to the relevant prescription, and selects Remove. In the Remove Active Medication modal, the provider selects Cancel and can optionally add a comment for the pharmacy before submitting. Once sent, the prescription moves from the active to the inactive medication list with a status of Cancel Requested. The pharmacy then responds with either an approval, completing the cancellation, or a Cancel Denied response if the prescription has already been filled, which moves the medication accordingly based on the pharmacy's reply.

E-Rx: Cancel a Prescription Order lets providers send an electronic cancellation request to a pharmacy for a prescription that's already been sent, rather than needing to call the pharmacy directly. It's built for situations where a prescription needs to be stopped after it's already reached the pharmacy, such as a client's condition changing or an error in the original order. The provider can include an optional comment explaining the cancellation to the pharmacy, though this isn't required to submit the request. Since cancellation depends on the pharmacy's own response, the outcome isn't guaranteed instantly; if the prescription has already been filled, the pharmacy will return a "Cancel Denied" response instead.
