E-Fax

Send and receive HIPAA-compliant faxes directly through Healthie, powered by Sfax — no physical fax machine required.

Built by Partner

The problem it solves

Faxing remains one of the most common ways healthcare providers exchange referrals, chart notes, and lab reports, but a physical fax machine is slow, requires printing, and doesn't fit into a digital workflow. Without e-faxing, providers have to manage a separate, disconnected communication channel outside their EHR.

What's included

  • Dedicated inbound/outbound fax line
  • Send faxes directly from chart notes, documents, or the Faxing tab — PDF only
  • Automatic branded cover letter, with optional HIPAA disclaimer language
  • Fax number porting in or out of Healthie

How it works

Providers send a fax from the Faxing tab, or directly from a chart note or document, by selecting a PDF and a recipient's fax number; Healthie automatically attaches a branded cover letter, with an optional HIPAA disclaimer. Outbound faxes send from a generic, non-receiving number by default. Receiving faxes requires a dedicated fax line for the account; existing fax numbers can also be ported in or out, which typically takes 1–2 months. All sent and received faxes are tracked in the Faxing tab with delivery status.

E-Fax gives providers a HIPAA-compliant way to send and receive faxes electronically through Healthie, powered by Healthie's fax partner Sfax. It's built for practices communicating with providers and organizations outside Healthie — referrals, chart notes, lab reports — without needing a physical fax machine. Outbound faxing is available by default, sent from a generic number; a dedicated inbound/outbound fax line can also be enabled for the account. Only PDF documents can be faxed.
