Click-to-Call Widget

Turns the phone numbers on a client's Quick Profile into one-tap call buttons, so staff can dial a client or their pharmacy without leaving the chart or retyping a number. Phone details can be updated inline, keeping the record current without opening a separate settings page.

Built by Core Engineering

The problem it solves

Staff who need to call a client or pharmacy have to find the number on the profile, copy it, and paste or type it into their phone system, which slows down high-volume outreach like refill coordination and appointment follow-up. Pharmacy contact details often live in notes or an external system, so they are not reliably one click away when a call needs to happen.

What's included

  • Call client button rendered from the client's phone number on file
  • Call pharmacy button sourced from pharmacy name and phone stored in client metadata
  • Inline editing of client phone, pharmacy name, and pharmacy phone from within the widget
  • Edits saved back to the client record via updateClient, preserving other metadata keys
  • Click-to-call links formatted to open in the practice's phone or softphone system

How it works

The widget is enabled on an organization's Quick Profile as a custom sidebar component. Once active, it appears in the General tab of the Quick Profile panel for every client. The widget reads the client's phone number from their record and renders it as a Call client link. If the client's metadata contains pharmacy_name and pharmacy_phone keys, a Call pharmacy link appears alongside it. Clicking either link hands the number to the user's configured phone system. Staff can edit any of the three values inline. On save, the widget re-fetches the current metadata, merges the change, and writes it back through updateClient so other metadata keys are untouched.

Example configuration

Pharmacy details are stored on the client as a JSON string in metadata:

{"pharmacy_name": "Example Pharmacy", "pharmacy_phone": "15551234567"}

Click-to-Call Widget adds a compact calling panel to the client Quick Profile with a Call client button and a Call pharmacy button. It is built for care coordination and front-office teams who make frequent outbound calls to clients and pharmacies from inside Healthie. Pharmacy details are read from the client's metadata, so practices that store pharmacy name and phone there see the pharmacy button populate automatically. Staff can edit the client phone, pharmacy name, and pharmacy phone directly in the widget and the changes save back to the client record.
